Relational Operators Flashcards

1️⃣ Familiarise yourself with the flashcards:

  • Look through all the flashcards to see what's on both sides.
  • Make sure you understand the information on each card. If something's unclear, click the link to the revision notes at the bottom of the page for more details.

2️⃣ Test yourself:

  • Look at the question or prompt on each card and try to remember the answer before flipping it over.
  • Check the answer and make a note of any cards you find challenging and need to go over more.

3️⃣ Consistently Review and Practice:

  • Use spaced repetition: spend more time on the cards you struggle with and go over them more often.
  • Regularly review all the flashcards to help you better understand and retain the information over time.

What is a relational operator?

A symbol that compares two values and gives True or False.

What type of value do relational operators return?

A Boolean value: True or False.

Which symbols show the six relational operators in AQA pseudocode?

=, <>, <, >, <=, >=

What is the difference between < and <=?

< excludes equality; <= includes equality.

What does >= mean?

Greater than or equal to (includes equality).

What is the result of 7 > 5?

True.

What is the result of 12 <= 12?

True.

What is the result of 8 <> 8 in AQA pseudocode?

False (because the values are equal).

Where are relational operators used in code?

In conditions for IF statements and loops to decide what to do.

How are strings compared with relational operators?

By character order (alphabetical). For example, 'apple' < 'banana' is True.

What problem can happen if you compare a number with a string, like 5 and '5'?

They are different types, so it may be False or an error. Convert one type first.
