Data Collection Flashcards

1️⃣ Familiarise yourself with the flashcards:

What is primary data in fieldwork?

Primary data is data collected firsthand by the researcher during fieldwork, such as questionnaires, interviews and photographs.

What is secondary data in fieldwork?

Secondary data is data collected by someone else but used by the researcher, such as census results, maps, newspaper articles and weather data.

What is human data?

Human data relates to information about people and human activities, such as data on cities, towns and tourism.

What is physical data?

Physical data relates to information about natural landscapes, including rivers, coastlines and forests.

What is systematic sampling?

Systematic sampling involves collecting data in an orderly manner, such as interviewing every 10th person who passes a certain point.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of primary data?

Strengths: Control over accuracy and reliability, specific to the enquiry, up-to-date information.

Weaknesses: May require specialist equipment, large sample size needed, time-consuming.
