What is a food web?

A food web is a more complex and interlinked network of feeding relationships within an ecosystem, made up of multiple interconnected food chains.

How does a food web differ from a food chain?

A food web consists of multiple interconnected food chains, making ecosystems less vulnerable to changes in the environment, whereas a food chain is a single sequence showing feeding relationships.

What happens if a single species disappears from a food chain?

The disappearance of a single species from a food chain doesn’t necessarily disrupt the entire chain because remaining species might find alternative food sources in the larger food web.

How can the decrease in the population of one organism affect predator species?

If the population of an organism decreases, it can impact predator species that rely on it for food.

However, predators may survive if they can find alternative food sources.

Why is a food web important for ecosystem balance?

A food web provides flexibility and alternative food sources, helping ecosystems maintain balance even if some species’ populations change.
